· Captain Jon Fox targets 100th cap to kick start his 6th season
· Back row players, Duane Eager and Callum Bowden re-sign
· Hugh Gustafson, “These three signings have shown their qualities throughout the past season, each bringing a different dynamic to the squad.”
Hot on the heels of our first re-signing announcement, Swansea RFC can also confirm that captain Jon Fox and back row players Duane Eager and Callum Bowden will continue to play in the Whites jersey next season.
After five seasons at The Whites, two as captain, and reaching 99 appearances, captain Jon Fox has his eye firmly on his 100th match and gaining his club cap to kick start the 2019/20 campaign, and will continue to lead the squad in his laid back but determined manner that has helped the squad in remaining composed and determined on the field.
Foxy will be joined in the back row by Duane Eager who has brought in his highly competitive edge to the match day squads and shown his natural leadership instinct when captaining the side on several occasions last season. Duane has proved to be a big hit with the Whites supporters, also receiving the Supporters’ Club Player of the Month award.
Flanker Callum Bowen has certainly lived up to his reputation as a powerful player upon signing last season played in 28 of the 30 league games. As well as man of the match appearances during the season, in testament to his efforts and his continued development as a powerful back row player, Callum also received the Bernard Cajot Young player of The year award at the Swansea RFC presentation evening.
Head coach, Hugh Gustafson commented, “These three signings have shown their qualities throughout the past seasons, each bringing a different dynamic to the squad. Foxy with his ball carrying abilities and his leadership as captain on and off the field. Duane has shown his experiences this season speaking the younger players and demonstrating how much word rate he produces every game he wears the jersey. Callum was outstanding last season and was rewarded with the young player of the year award during our presentation evening. He has been a constant thorn in the opposition attack with his defensive abilities and we’re looking forward to seeing his continued development next season”
