as Chris
Swansea RFC are pleased to announce the continued presence of three more players as Chris Morgans, Steffen Williams and Tom Ham have each renewed their contracts with The Whites.
At 32 years old and with solid careers with Neath and Aberavon behind him, scrum-half Chris Morgans has been a valuable addition during last season when he joined from Neath. The former Wales 7s man got 98 games for Aberavon under his belt before joining Neath. His play for Swansea last season showed the maturity that made him an attractive player to sign, his experience and game reading making several openings for the backs and a memorable one for himself when he dummied his way to the try line in the bonus point win over Ebbw Vale. Chris’ continued presence in the squad will surely benefit the younger players as we approach the 2019-20 season.
Head Coach Hugh Gustafson added: “Chrissy Morgs has been brilliant since he signed during last season . His experience and wealth of knowledge of the game has improved our backline.”
Outside-half Steff Williams joins Chris in renewing his Swansea contract for 2019-20. Another player to have come from Aberavon RFC (2015-19), Stef’s game control has been a valuable asset during the vital season past and despite a period of injury e contributed 15 conversions and 10 penalties as Swansea climbed out of relegation danger. While looking to blood young players it is reassuring to have Stef available with his strength and distribution skills again helping bring younger players on, as Swansea look to get the balance right within the playing squad.
Hugh Gustafson noted that: “ It is great to get Steff to stay on with us this season . He joined us during the season and put in some great performances. As a club we’re all Looking forward to see what he can do this season.”
Tom Ham has been with The Whites for two seasons already and at just 20 years old is a great prospect at scrum-half, making some storming contributions last season behind the scrum. Very quick off the mark, Tom has also the confidence to pressurise his opposite number and has several times got Swansea on the front foot by catching his opponent in possession. His distribution is crisp and clean and he has proved a handful for defences all last season when he played 19 matches for The Whites. A product of the Ospreys West U16s and Ospreys U19s, Tom has much more to give and is one to watch next season.
Gus added his own observation that: “Tom ham had excellent season last year with a standout performance with the win at home against Merthyr . We are looking forward to his development this season.”
