Swansea RFC announce Nathan Bonner-Evans as newly appointed forwards coach

Swansea RFC are pleased to welcome new forwards coach, Nathan Bonner-Evans, to the coaching set up ahead of the upcoming Indigo Premiership season.

Bonner-Evans, who played in the back row, has a wealth of playing experience across all levels of rugby, having played regionally in Wales, in the English Premiership and for the Wales at under 18, 19, 21 and uncapped player in the 2002 Wales 6Nations squad.

Prior to the regionalisation of the game, Bonner-Evans started his playing career at Llanelli RFC, moving on then to Newport RFC and Neath RFC.  A stint at the Ospreys from 2003 – 2005 saw him winning the Magners League with the side in 2004/5, before moving across the border to wear the Sale Sharks jersey from 2005-2008, making 37 appearances and winning the Guinness Premiership. Nathan then signed for London Welsh for two seasons, before heading back to Wales playing the final two seasons of his rugby playing career at Neath RFC in 2010-12.

Nathan took on some coaching responsibilities whilst at London Welsh RFC, under the tutelage of current Scotland Forwards coach, Danny Wilson, and ex England hooker, Phil Greening, and he was the forwards coach at Neath RFC during my time there until 2012.

On his appointed with The Whites, Nathan said, “I feel extremely privileged to be given the opportunity to be involved with such a historic club, which has always been an integral part of the history of Welsh rugby

Upon meeting Gus and JP, I was extremely impressed by the set up the club has and its vision moving forward of having a core of hometown Swansea boys and local young talent as a major part of the squad. Having players who want to be part of the team for the right reasons is integral to a team’s cohesiveness and success.

Im looking forward to playing my part in a young and talented coaching set up, where we all have the same ideas and philosophies of how the game should be played, while adding a little bit of old school grit to the forwards performances, and hopefully, pushing onward and upward from last season’s encouraging end of season performances.
