Statement on Matthew Aubrey

Swansea RFC, are pleased to announce that scrum half Matthew Aubrey has been transferred to Cardiff Rugby. Whilst we are disappointed to have lost Matthews services, we are delighted for him and his family that he has secured a full-time contract. Swansea RFC have played a role through our involvement with the Ospreys development programme with shaping Matthew’s career. During a difficult period in the financial well-being of Welsh rugby which has affected a lot of players it is pleasing to have concluded the transfer, with his contract settled in a timely and straight forward manner.

On a personal level I have enjoyed watching Matthew wear the “Whites” jersey. He is a talented and committed player and will make a great addition to the Cardiff squad. It has been very hard for us to release Matthew, but we felt for his personal good and for the benefit of true player development, which has been core to Swansea RFC’s mission statement, we had to let him take this great opportunity.

Matthew leaves us with my sincere gratitude for his services to Swansea RFC and with the knowledge that the door at St Helens will always be open for him.
