Six of the Best

Tuesday at St Helen’s saw the sixth and final Sporting Memories of 2021 take place in the St Helen’s Lounge. As we look forward to starting up again in the New Year, we said goodbye to the old year in fine style. Helen and Katy from the Ospreys in the Community arrived with mince pies, and tea and coffee were served before we got down to some big fun.

A Christmas theme pervaded the quiz session and there were some vey unseasonal examples of cheating and answer changing as everyone competed for the chocolate box prizes.

The group enjoyed another presentation from the St Helen’s Archive and this tie round we featured a set of Irish international jerseys acquired by the club since 1908. A bonus was that a French collector had sent us a picture of the Stade Français team that played Swansea in 1905, having seen on social media, our French presentation the week before.

The afternoon was completed with a game of ‘snowballs’ and the competitive edge certainly came to the fore as everyone played to get the highest score.

This was the sixth Sporting Memories session since restrictions were relaxed this year and we are all looking forward to starting up again on 11th January 2022 at St Helen’s. The two series of Sporting Memories held since 2020 have been enormously successful in bringing people in the community together and raising spirits. Thanks to the efforts of Helen John (Health & Wellbeing Co-ordinator) and her team at Ospreys in the Community, a resilient group is now well  established at Swansea RFC.

We’ll see you in the New year.
