Martin Jones Passes On

Martin Jones #2570

Swansea RFC were deeply saddened to hear about the recent passing of former Swansea RFC prop forward Martin Jones at just 44 years old after a long illness.

Martin represented Swansea during the 2006/07 season and made his debut v Cardiff on 2nd September 2006 in a 36-30 victory at Cardiff Arms Park.

Although Martin only played for “The All Whites” on 18 occasions, his experience came to the fore which saw him captain the side on three occasions. Martin won international honours for Wales at age grade level against Scotland under-21’s in a 31-18 victory at Stirling.

Martin played for Cwmtwrch and Ystradgynlais and also represented Llanelli (2000), Ebbw Vale (2001-2003), Celtic Warriors (2003-2004), Cardiff Blues & Cardiff RFC (2004-2006), and Neath (2007-2011 & 2014).

A testimonial match in his honour was played just a few days before his sad passing, at The Gnoll, Neath to raise money for his care needs, between Neath Veterans XV and a Martin Jones XV and featured players such as former world darts champion Gerwyn Price, former Swansea outside-half and Wales international Arwel Thomas, as well as former Welsh International Nathan Brew, former Swansea hooker Ashleigh James and a member of Swansea’s coaching staff Kevin James.

Martin will be sadly missed by everyone who crossed paths with him and everyone at Swansea RFC pass on our sincere condolences to all family and friends at this sad time.

A minute’s silence will be observed prior to our next home match between Swansea and Neath RFC at St. Helen’s on Saturday 13th April.
