Swansea RFC are delighted to confirm the signing of lock Lloyd Ashley from Merthyr RFC, previously Ospreys and Barbarians, for the upcoming 23/24 season.
Lloyd brings a mountain of professional experience, having been with the Ospreys since 2011 and subsequently made over 150 appearances. He has also made appearances for the Scarlets and most recently, the Barbarians. He made the decision to retire from professional rugby at the end of the 21/22 season, but was subsequently signed by Merthyr RFC for the 22/23 season.
He is also the current Athlete Support Officer at Swansea University, providing support to dual career athletes and academics, and the director and founder of Living Well with Lloyd Ashley, supporting wellbeing and mental health awareness events for businesses, universities, clubs and charities.
Prior to the announcement, Lloyd added; “Next year is really exciting for me, joining a team with such a proud history, playing alongside quality players and under one of the best young coaching set ups in the league. It also gives me an opportunity to play with some of the next crop of Ospreys players as well as some very good rugby friends, and see the quality that is coming through the university. You can see how much of a big club Swansea RFC is, when they are announcing a fixture against the Barbarians and celebrating 150 years.”
We are so excited for Lloyd to join us in pre-season, and we are certain he will will be a great addition to the team for next season as we build as a club and keep reaching our goals next year.
