Former All White passes on

Swansea Rugby Club is sad to announce that we are informed of the passing of former All White, Brian Jones.

Former Swansea prop Brian Jones has recently died and his absence from St Helen’s will sadden us all. A Cwmllynfell boy, Brian played prop forward in the Swansea Athletic in the mid-1960s and from 1966 in the first fifteen. As a serving policeman, he also played for Swansea Police, South Wales Police and represented British Police. It was whilst on duty responding to an accident on Fairwood common that he was struck by a car and badly injured, putting an end to his playing days.

But Brian is also remembered as an important figure in the founding of the AWFPA and indeed was its secretary for over 15 years. He was a regular face on match days at the club and also at the AWFPA annual dinners, usually sat alongside it’s then Chairman Terry Morgan. It is a mark of the respect in which he was held by its members that he was made an Honorary Life Member for his services to the club and its former players. He will be sadly missed and we will hold a minute’s silence prior to kick-off on Saturday’s match with Cross Keys to respect his memory.
