In light of the recent news that Swansea RFC Womens team will be folding, the club would like to take the opportunity to thank all players for their dedication and commitment to the Whites jersey since the teams establishment in 2016/17, taking us into the 4th season when lockdown came into our everyday vocabulary
The women’s side was launched following the demand for increased opportunities for female rugby in  the Swansea area and we are proud to have been able to welcome many new local players to the team across the seasons, as well as support a core squad and International players. The decision to fold did not come lightly; for many of the girls it was not just about the rugby, but about being part of a team sport, with a rugby family around them and having opportunities to enjoy sport in a friendly environment.

Losing a large part of our core squad to clubs across the border was out of our control and not something that was discussed with us. However we are fully supportive of the girls following their ambitions and passion to play International rugby.

As a result of the pandemic and uncertainty of league structures for the 21/22 season, recruitment has been significantly more difficult. Especially as we didn’t want to take players from other clubs leaving them with reduced numbers. Whilst we’ve been holding training sessions under current guidelines, it became apparent that the numbers available were diminishing, with many players having other commitments, retiring, or moving from the area. We made the very tough decision.

We place no blame on any of the girls for decisions that needed to be made, and are fully supportive of their next steps. We are reassured that our players have been able to transfer to other clubs, and hope that they continue to enjoy playing and competing within the sport.

We’d like to extend our thanks to all Swansea RFC Women’s team sponsors for their support in establishing and running the women’s side, coaches and back room staff, players, and most of all, the supporters who have been with us along the way.
