Arwel Morgan Passes On

All at Swansea RFC were saddened to hear of the passing last week of former ‘All White’ scrum-half Arwel Morgan.

Arwel hailed from Cwmllynfell , where he played at scrum-half before joining Swansea in 1968. Turning out at scrum-half for the ‘All Whites, Arwel made his 1st XV debut away against Maesteg on 23rd October 1968. Partnering predominantly Roger Davies or Godfrey Davies or Wayne Lewis at half-back, Arwel played 22 matches in an otherwise difficult season for Swansea. But Arwel contributed 5 tries in his first season. The following season (1969-70), now predominantly partnered by his good friend John Evans, Arwel made 19 appearances and contributed to the scoreboard with 8 tries, getting two against London Welsh in their December visit to St Helen’s. Arwel played just two matches the following season (1970-71) and also had a spell playing for Neath. A popular player at St Helen’s and with the All Whites Former Players’ Association, whose dinners he regularly attended, his passing will be marked by a minute silence at the next home match. The thoughts of all at Swansea RFC are with Arwel’s family at this difficult time. The funeral service will be held at Morriston Crematorium on Monday 5th February at 10:30am and those who wish to attend are welcome to do so.
