Sporting Memories: #5

Tuesday afternoon saw the fifth session of Sporting Memories since we recommenced, take place at Swansea RFC. Enthusiastic sport-loving folk from the local community gathered for an afternoon of quizzes, games and a memorabilia presentation, despite the dull weather that had tried to throw us off track.

Warm and snug in the St Helen’s Lounge, we had tea/coffee and the obligatory chocolate biscuits before embarking on a surprisingly competitive round of quizzes overseen by Helen John, the Health & Wellbeing Co-ordinator at Ospreys in the Community. Friendly rivalry was the order of the day as we all sought to get ‘an edge’ in the different quizzes.

A short presentation as usual was made from the Swansea RFC Memorabilia CIC, and this week we went French with the club’s fine collection of French international jerseys brought out and explained under supervision of the archive team. The St Helen’s connections and players’ stories were revealed and the guests were quick to spot an Olympic theme woven into the French rugby story.

Two teams then battled out a couple of rounds of bean bag darts which, being closely fought, went down to the last bean bag! previous weeks have seen indoor curling and bowling as popular ‘carpet’ sports activities.

Next Tuesday from 13:30 to 15:30 will be our last session before Christmas but we will be up and ready to go again on January 11th at St Helen’s. Come along and enjoy activities that put smiles on faces and ensure everyone goes home refreshed and cheerful.
