The game against Ebbw Vale on 26 October 2002 was the end of 83 consecutive games played by Ben Evans, which started on 12 February 2000 !
The final match of the season was played at St Helens was against Newport on 13th May 2003. Part of the Swansea side was made up from the U21’s side. It was a torrid affair with two Newport players being red carded ( Percy Montgomery & Mike Voyle) as well as Prop Tim Evans for Swansea (not before scoring a Try) following which the Referee called for uncontested scrums. The final score was 42 – 33 to Swansea which was a magnificant effort against an experienced Newport side. The match marked a watershed in the Clubs’ history and some of the young players from this season went on to form the core of the Premiership side of 2003-4.
