Lock forward Hopkin Davies made his Swansea debut in 1892. He was first selected to play for Wales in the 1898 international season against Ireland under the captaincy of club mate W J Bancroft. Wales won this match at Limerick and he was selected again for the match at Blackheath against England where Wales were beaten by a late English rally. Hopkins was not selected again until 1901 when Wales lost at Inverleith to Scotland. His last cap was a win at his home ground of St Helens, Swansea on 16th March 1901, again with Billy Bancroft as captain in his own last appearance for Wales.
