John Idwal Rees played as a centre/wing for Wales on 14 occasions between 1934 and 1938 scoring 1 try.

Idwal made his debut for Swansea in 1928 and played for the club versus South Africa in 1931. He also played for Cambridge University (Blue 1931 and 1932), London Welsh, Edinburgh Wanderers and Barbarians.
