John Meredith played as a forward on 4 occasions for Wales between 1888 and 1890.

He played for Wales against Scotland in 1888 & 1890. Against Ireland in 1888 & England in 1890. Meredith was in the 1888 side that beat Scotland (at Newport) and then  lost away to Ireland. Not selected again till 1890 he again played agaist the Scots (at Cardiff), losing this time, but maintained his place in the side that went on to win for the firsat time against England. He lost his place to Newport's Tom Graham after this and did not play for Wales again.

He made his debut for Swansea in february1885. A strong runner and adept at the forward skill of dribbling, Meredith was a great favourite with the Swansea crowds for his "galloping runs". John Meredith was in the Swansea side that won the South Wales Challenge Cup for the second time in 1887.
He later became a literary adjudicator in Eisteddfodau and also took a great interest in horticulture. He was the Sectreatry if the West Glamorgan Friendly society under the National Health Insurance.
