- Swansea team announced
Swansea Women’s Rugby Team have had another successful season, having already won the league they are looking forward to the final of the Super Cup on Saturday at the Bridge Field, Bedwas (KO: 4pm), and as they are the current holders we are hoping for another trophy this weekend - in fact the women’s team have only lost one game over the past two seasons.
The team is going from strength to strength and this year 6 of the Swansea Women’s Rugby Team represented Wales in the 6 nations: Siwan Lillicrap, Kerin Lake, Keira Bevan, Alex Donovan, Natalia John and Cara Hope.
One of the highlights of the Swansea Women’s Rugby Team season is the Ellie Norkett memorial game, when they face an international select team. This year, once again the Swansea girls showed great resilience in the face of such an accomplished and experienced international team. Albeit they lost they didn’t go down without a fight and managed to score two tries.
At the end of the rugby season the girls do not hang up their boots and rest, in fact they continue to keep fit by entering 7s competitions all over the country, and this year they intend to challenge the rest of the world when they take part in the Barbados 7s competition in December.
The success of the Swansea Women’s Team is not only due to their strength and determination on the field but also it is due to the camaraderie and comradeship that exists off the pitch. This camaraderie is fostered by the leadership of the team captain, Siwan Lillicrap and her Vice-Captain Kerin Lake.
However, the support does not stop there and all members of the Woman’s section would like to take this opportunity to give a HUGE THANKS to the Board of the Whites – as without them the team would not be the best in Wales.
The team has such promise that the next step would be for them to play in a higher league so that they can face tougher opposition and be tested to the full and hopefully this is something that will happen in the not too distant future.
But on Saturday they will face their old rivals from North wales, Caernarfon. Last year's final was a nail biter with a last minute penalty giving Swansea a 23 - 20 win. Come and support the girls on final day at Bedwas.
