- Full back/outside half Gareth Walter is the latest Whites recruit
- This generation of the Walters family to play for Swansea RFC
- Richard Lancaster; "We can already see he makes good decisions and will be able to impose control on the game"
Swansea RFC are pleased to announce the signing of full back/outside half, Gareth Walters.
Joining The Whites from Llanelli after three seasons and 58 appearances, Walters will be the third generation of his family to wear the Swansea RFC jersey. Father, John Walters played at St Helen’s from 1973-1976, and grandfather Ted Walters wore the famous Whites jersey for five seasons in 1945-1950.
The 28 year old from Carmarthen represented the Scarlets at Under 16 and played for UWIC’s university side for three years whilst studying in Cardiff. Gareth then travelled out to Australia and played in the premier league for the University of Western Australia.
On signing for the Whites, Gareth said; “I’m excited to be joining Swansea RFC as a club with great history, but also as the third generation of my family to play at St Helen’s. I’m looking forward to getting out on the field and following in my family’s footsteps, and hope to make my mark in the squad over the course of the season”
Director of Rugby, Richard Lancaster commented; “Gareth has only been with us a week but we are already seeing the influence he can have. He makes his experience tell and is already helping some of the younger players with their games. We can already see he makes good decisions and will be able to impose control on the game. He is proud and excited to be joining the club and we're looking forward to seeing him in the jersey”
