The All Whites kept up the pressure on championship rivals Merthyr with a 19-5 win over Newcastle Emlyn.

With Merthyr suffering a rare defeat at champions Bargoed, the win drags Swansea right back into the title race.

The home side were handed an early opportunity to take the lead when the All Whites were caught offside at the breakdown, but winger Daniel Davies’ effort at goal fell short of the posts.

Emlyn continued to attack, but Swansea fly half Jack Wilson charged down a chip through and regathered to race the length of the field to score under the posts. He also converted.

Winger Richard Thomas then took the ball in midfield and embarked on a run, finding the rampaging lock Gavin Ronan in support, but he lost the ball forward at the crucial moment.

Scrum half Rhodri Wells then took advantage of a missed tackle to send winger Will Lewis racing through the middle, before he sent a scoring pass out wide to flanker Mike Sully. Wilson missed the conversion.

Richard Thomas picked up a loose ball and began an attack, but a crossfield kick by Wilson just evaded the chasing full back Josh Flye into touch.

Offside in midfield by the Emlyn defence gave Swansea a penalty and Wilson kicked to the corner. Ronan charged forward from the lineout to create a platform for Sully to dive over for his second try. Wilson converted.

An infringement in the scrum by prop Richard Murphy gave Emlyn a penalty. Fly half Dyfan Dafydd kicked to the corner, but the home side lost the ball forward at the lineout.

Newcastle Emlyn continued to batter the Swansea defence and they finally got their reward when Dafydd chipped to the corner for the chasing winter Llyr Davies to collect and score. Daniel Davies missed the conversion.

A superb break by full back Shaun Leonard sent Llyr Davies racing towards the line, but he was tackled into touch near the line.

Lewis was penalised for holding onto possession after the tackle and Dafydd kicked to the corner, although hooker Alex Williams failed to throw the ball five yards at the lineout.

Emlyn continued to attack through Leonard, Llyr Davies and replacement number eight Gareth Thomson, but Lewis turned over possession and cleared.

The home side should have grabbed a late bonus point but a comedy of errors saw them inexplicably mess up what should have been a simple try.

Next up for Newcastle Emlyn is a trip to Newbridge, while Swansea travel to Tata Steel.
