The All Whites survived a tricky opening half hour to record a routine bonus point victory over Cardiff Met at a boggy Cyncoed Campus.
Surprisingly it was the home side who took the lead when a Swansea attack broke down, allowing the students to get the ball out wide for full back Corey Whane to split the Whites defence and hand a scoring pass to winger James Beal. Fly half Tyler Williams converted.
Four minutes later the All Whites threatened to hit back when prop Ryan Thomas charged forward and linked up with number eight Jon Vaughan, who made good yardage, before passing to winger Will Lewis. The Cardiff Met defence then killed the ball, but Swansea were unable to make the most of the penalty.
A superb crossfield kick by fly half Ian Brooks was well collected at pace by winger Andrew Claypole, and he sprinted deep into the Cardiff Met half, before sending flanker Mike Sully over for a try. Brooks converted.
Cardiff Met locks Alec Dombrandt and James Little combined to drive their side into the Swansea half, but the move broke down. Lewis was then unlucky not to score after hacking the ball up towards the students’ try line, but the defence managed to scramble back.
The visitors were awarded a penalty a few metres out from the Cardiff Met line and it was taken quickly to send centre Jedd Evans over for a simple try under the posts. Brooks converted.
When the Cardiff Met forwards entered a ruck from the side, Brooks was handed an opportunity to extend his side’s lead, but he missed his effort at goal.
Playing into a tricky wind, the home side found it difficult to clear their lines and were penalised for holding on after the tackle when the forwards tried to drive their way out of defence. Brooks opted to kick to the corner, but Cardiff Met turned over possession and cleared.
The students may have fancied their chances with only a seven point gap at half time, but with a couple of minutes left on the clock the All Whites embarked on a counterattack through full back Liam Popham, Lewis and centre Josh Flye. They created an overlap out wide for Claypole to use his strength to score in the corner. Brooks converted.

The second half began in a rather fiery fashion as Swansea flanker Jack Perkins and Little were sent to the sin-bin for fighting.
The Whites were then reduced to just 13 men after Vaughan was also shown a yellow card for killing a dangerous Cardiff Met attack as their forwards rumbled towards the line.
The home side took advantage of the extra man and Beal grabbed his second try as he profited from quick ball out wide. However, Williams missed the conversion.
Replacement hooker Paul John and Sully began an attack from inside their own half and took play deep into home territory, before scrum half Sior Pearce was penalised for killing the ball.
Brooks kicked to the corner and the ball was rapidly recycled from the lineout to send Lewis over for Swansea’s bonus point try. Brooks missed the conversion.
The visitors rounded things off with a fifth try when Popham made a break and found Brooks, who aimed a Crossfield kick towards the chasing Lewis. Cardiff Met were penalised for offside and the Whites opted for a close range scrum, from which replacement flanker Rory Gallagher dived over to score. Brooks missed the conversion.
The home side tried their best to score a third try when Beal sprinted into the twenty-two, and prop Will Norton powered up to within five metres of the line, but a stray passed sailed into touch.
Next up for Cardiff Met is a trip to Newbridge, while Swansea host Pontypool.
